‘Extraordinarily useful’: The School Librarian on Essential Articles, Fact File & Key Organisations

EA13FactFile11KO2011
We were delighted to read these comments in the School Librarian, Summer 2011:

Essential Articles 13: ‘Every year I am astonished at the range and quality of this invaluable resource; the editorial work, and care, supporting such value is SUPERB.’

Fact File 2011: ‘An assemblage of facts and figures themed for maximum school usefulness. The opening 3 sections are ‘alcohol and drugs’ ‘animals’ and ‘Britain and its citizens’, the parallels with Essential Articles are obvious. The variety of presentation is terrific so that a mass of statistics become accessible and intriguing.’

Key Organisations 2011 ‘is so valuable: it reinforces the school librarian as the fount of the whereabouts of all knowledge for every subject department whatever project or event is being planned or researched.’

All 3 resources are available at a discount as part of our

Facts at your Fingertips – feedback please...

Several people have asked us about having a version of our annual Fact File specially aimed at age 10-14.

We thought we could try this, in pdf form only, so schools and libraries could access easy-to-understand statistics presented in a lively and attractive way. We've prepared a few sample pages which you can see here. We're wondering if this would meet a need in years 6-8 as well as with less able readers and we would welcome any feedback.

Britain's fattest Man, Ch4 Wed 05 Jan, 9.35pm

'Forty-nine-year-old Paul Mason is Britain's Fattest Man. Estimated to be between 60 to 70 stone, he's been bed bound for the best part of a decade, disowned by his family, and turned down for the only thing that can save him - an operation to staple his stomach.

But unable to look after himself, and imprisoned in his own home, Paul's care is costing the Department of Social Services a massive £2,000 a week'

This Channel 4 documentary is bound to cause discussion. You can find a similar dilemma discussed in Essential Articles 13 p34 as well as many interesting related articles - including a poignant piece from Lionel Shriver on her brother's death.

For provocative writing and a well-rounded view of the topic, type obesity into our Quicksearch

You'll find a list of articles and relevant statistics to make your library the information hub for this topic.
